For The ‘El Dorado’ Of All Marathons

With speed and efficiency the cornerstone of her work as a partner with solicitors Cozens-Hardy, Philippa Rudd knows how to deliver professionally. And as an amateur marathon runner who has just qualified for the oldest annual city marathon in the world, Boston (USA), Philippa also knows how to deliver as an athlete.

Having recently returned from the Edinburgh marathon, where she posted a time of 3 hours 59 minutes and 18 seconds, Philippa cracked the four hours mark to officially qualify for one of the five World Marathon Majors, the Boston Marathon.

Said Philippa:

“After disappointing times in the Athens marathon last year and at Paris earlier this year, I was running out of excuses for a poor time! I only had six weeks between Paris and Edinburgh and, to be honest, I was lacking in confidence so my expectations were low. But despite hitting very strong winds at mile 20, I managed to push really hard over the last couple of miles and just squeezed inside the magic four hours mark.”

Thrilled to have qualified for Boston in April next year, Philippa is hoping that nothing will stand in the way of making her World Marathon Major debut. And Philippa is right to worry – after all, she managed to qualify for Boston last year, only for the Eyjafjallajökull volcano to erupt the day before she was due to fly out!

As Philippa notes:

“I was absolutely gutted not to make it to Boston last year, because it really is the ‘Grand Daddy’ of all marathons. Fingers crossed I remain fit and get the opportunity to experience this fantastic event. Only around 10 percent of marathon runners ever qualify for Boston, so I can’t wait...”

In the meantime, Philippa has two pressing sporting engagements. She takes part in the Norfolk Superhero Challenge, a quadrathlon (swim, kayak, cycle, run) endurance event on 18th June, before joining one of three Cozens-Hardy teams entered in the relay race of the Norwich Triathlon, which takes place at Whitlingham in Trowse on Sunday 3rd July.

And through all of her sporting endeavours, Philippa and the firm are raising funds for two terrific local charities this year, Norfolk & Norwich Families House and Nelson’s Journey.
