In Norwich Triathlon

In blazing sunshine and temperatures nudging the high twenties, nine intrepid competitors from event sponsors Cozens-Hardy Solicitors embarked upon the Norwich Triathlon on Sunday. All, bar one, triathlon debutantes.

And what a debut! SwimCap
Cheered on by the Emeralds Cheerleading Squad, which is run by one of the firm’s trainee solicitors, Cozens-Hardy’s three mixed relay teams finished 12th, 13th and 21st in their class.

Enthused Philippa Rudd, Principal - Cozens-Hardy Team ‘A’ competitor:

“It’s been a brilliant event, really well organised and great fun. On a personal level I was delighted to take on the final running leg and just squeeze past our second team to take firm honours by just over a minute! But I’m really proud of all our team members, each of whom has taken on their first triathlon with bags of enthusiasm and spirit – if, perhaps, not quite enough training in some instances! We hope to be back again next year and go for overall team honours.”

Principal Chris Groves also took part as an individual over the Olympic distance, finishing a well deserved 3rd in his class.

Sponsorship of the Norwich Triathlon has been part of the firm’s drive to raise
money for two local charities this year, Nelson’s Journey and the Norfolk and Norwich Families’ House. Anyone who wishes to support these deserving charities can do so at: www.justgiving.com/teams/cozens-hardy.

The firm is also pleased to be able to offer support to two sports clubs, the East Coast Emeralds Cheerleading Squad and the Green Canaries Wheelchair Basketball Club.

Nelson’s Journey is a local charity which supports children and young people under the age of 18yrs, living in Norfolk, whose parent, sibling or other significant person has died. It is currently estimated that 1 in 29 school aged children have experienced the death of a parent or sibling. Their service helps to: increase self esteem by enabling children to meet others who have been bereaved; provide education about causes of death and the events surrounding the funeral; assist families in talking more openly; enable children to express and understand emotions and to provide children with opportunities to remember the person who has died.

Norfolk and Norwich Families’ House is a small local charity that supports families in Norfolk. As any parent knows, bringing up children in an ever changing and hectic world can be challenging. Not everyone has a loving family or friends who can lend a hand. Families’ House provides support to families who are under stress and need extra help. They provide a range of support groups, one to one parenting support, parenting courses and a volunteer befriending scheme. As the regional supervised contact centre they offer services to support children to enable them to meet with their non resident parent or relatives and promote positive relationships between parents bringing up children separately.

East Coast Emeralds Cheerleading Squad is a new cheerleading club in Norwich. They have a junior team for girls aged 8yrs – 15yrs and a senior team for girls aged 16yrs and above. They compete at regional and national cheerleading competitions.

Green Canaries Wheelchair Basketball Club is a wheelchair basketball club based in Norwich, consisting of junior and senior members. There is no restriction for membership, both able-bodied and disabled are eligible.
