Our efforts for World Alzheimer's Awareness Month

September is World Alzheimer's Awareness Month and, with the Alzheimer's Society having been nominated by staff as our charity of the year, we took the opportunity to plan some activities to help the charity’s cause.

At the beginning of this month, we organised some Dementia Friends’ workshops in conjunction with the Alzheimer's Society and Friend In Deed. We learned more about the disease and what we can do as a firm to help people living with dementia. We are very proud to announce that we are working towards becoming a ‘Dementia Friendly Firm’.

We also held a bake sale (which featured many delicious handmade treats donated by our staff!) and sold wristbands and pin badges to help raise awareness of this fantastic charity. We raffled off a wonderful hamper full of treats donated by the Walsingham Farms Shop in conjunction with Norfolk Food & Drink producers. The end of this month saw a smart-casual dress day and lunchtime quiz for our staff to get involved in. Some of our staff are also volunteering for the annual Norfolk Memory Walk at the Norfolk Showground this Saturday 30th September.  We have a few walkers signed up too, who are raising lots of funds on a personal basis for the charity.

So far this month, we have raised £191.23 for Alzheimer's Society, but perhaps more importantly we have learned a lot about living with the disease, thereby dispelling a lot of misunderstanding about Alzheimer's and dementia. To learn more about the Alzheimer's Society, click here.
