Print this pageTrainee Solicitor Shows True Marathon Spirit

Cozens-Hardy LLP trainee solicitor, James McCulloch, displayed the true meaning of team spirit in the 2009 City of Norwich Half Marathon.

As one quarter of the Business Challenge team entry from Cozens-Hardy solicitors, James had the cash pledge of many supporters on his shoulders as, just seven miles in, he pulled up in agony with the recurrence of a knee ligament injury.

"I injured my medial knee ligament playing in our firm's squash league a few months ago and I thought it was all OK. But at just over half distance, my knee gave in and I literally had to walk and limp the final six miles. I know it sounds daft, but I didn't want to let our sponsors down because we were raising money for the local cancer charity Big C."

Team leader and Cozens-Hardy Principal Philippa Rudd, who has successfully completed three marathons (New York, London and Berlin) in the past year, had nothing but praise for James:

"I think they were packing everything away by the time James crossed the finishing line! I have to say, though, he showed huge courage to finish the race and fully justified every penny of our generous sponsors' support for Big C."

James came in officially last of the 2,233 finishers. But, thanks to his and the team's participation in the Business Challenge, Cozens-Hardy LLP raised nearly £500 for Big C.
