Private Client
Tax Planning
Tax features in much of the work we do in the Private Client Department and we are also asked to advise other Departments on the tax consequences of work they do. For example Capital Gains Tax questions often arise on the sale of property or on the division of property on a Divorce.
Most of the other tax work focuses on the Capital Taxes (Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax and Stamp Duty Land Tax) but we also help individuals and trusts with their Income Tax Returns and questions.

Succession Planning
In a Will you are setting out what you want to happen to your assets after your death. However you may wish to pass on assets during your lifetime and/or plan for the next generation to come into and manage the family business.
Clearly tax is a consideration but it is not the only one (nor indeed necessarily the main one). It may well be that you do not wish to give up complete control of an asset or business and it may be appropriate to think about a trust, partnership or changes to shareholdings. These are matters with which we can help you and will often work with your accountants to find the right solution.
